A Past team of Charlie Brooks, Andy Pringle, Rich Lebon, Brian Elfick (singles) plus Ian Jackson, Joe Gribble, Charles Compton, Martin Wilkinson and Martin Robinson gained a narrow victory over a Present VIII which contained 6 of the team to play Oxford a week later plus two Sparrows-to-be. At the conclusion of the Singles, after four very close battles, the Present led by just 7 points . By the 'turn' after the first round of Doubles that lead had been increased by just 2 more points. But, as often happens in these matches, the Past proved too steady in the final round of Doubles and built up a considerable store of points in the lower pairs to run out winners by 232-206.
